Summer of Enrichment & FUN!:

Enrichment Component
In this program all participants are between the ages 12.9 to 14 years old. This program is geared and targeted to those pre-teens and teens that are unable to work for the summer and are too old for camp. The Murphy Teen Center in conjunction with the Murphy Community Center created a program just for these pre-teens and teens called Summer Enrichment and Fun.

Summer Enrichment and Fun offers three two week summer sessions. Each two week session has its own theme. The themes for Summer Enrichment and Fun are Justice, My Town, and All About Me. This program runs Monday Thru Friday from 11am to 5pm*.

The Justice session focuses on learning about the criminal justice system and knowing your rights and laws. In this session participants will have the to opportunity to meet with Judges, Lawyers, District Attorneys, visit a courthouse, go to jail for a day, and so much more about the Justice System.

The My Town session focuses on learning about the history of Boston, Massachusetts, and especially the town in which each participant lives. During this session participants will also learn how their families arrived in Boston. They will also participate in the Murphy's version of the Amazing Race. Along with that they will visit and tour some historical parts of the City of Boston.

The All About Me session focuses on getting ready for the new academic year, looking at self -image, awareness, and esteem. Goal setting and how to maintain goals along with banking classes will be given during this session. This sessions primary focus is focusing on each participants well being, which is their mind, body, and soul. This session is to assist getting some of the participants involved getting on track for the upcoming academic year and keeping those who are already on track stay on the right path but, not only stay on the right path how to get back on that right path in a healthy and productive way.

During each session there will be various scheduled workshops on teen dating violence, sex education, drug awareness, and healthy relationships just to name a few. There will be group discussions after each workshop to get a better understanding of what was being presented. The group will also be divided into two groups for a debate on an array of topics that each group will research on the Internet before each debate. Each participant will also be required to keep a journal for the program.

Fun Component
During the rest of the day the group will participate in arts and crafts projects, swimming, scavenger hunts, team building activities, field trips**, and recreational sports.
